The Intouchables (pronounce it in French) is to me already the best movie of 2012, and we’re only half way the year. I went into the movie not knowing what it was about, and moreover, I didn’t even know it was in French! If I had known, I had probably skipped it since I’m not a French film fan. But this one is hands on genius!
Based on a true story, Francois, an aristocratic quadriplegic hires a young man from the projects to be his caretaker. This young man, Omar, originally from Senegal has no experience but uses his pragmatic personality, and street smart outlook to get things done.
It’s an uplifting comedy about friendship, trust and human possibility, depicting an unlikely friendship rooted in honesty and humor between two individuals who, on the surface, would seem to have nothing in common. During the film you see both characters develop and their layers are cleverly peeled to discover their true emotions and thoughts. I found it moving, humorous and brilliantly acted! It makes you leave with much to think and talk about, and although I never watch a movie twice within 3 years, I would like to see this one again very soon.
