Book review: Tinkered Treasures

With Easter on our doorstep, I start perusing blogs, pinterest and websites to find creative ways to decorate. A wonderful resource for crafting ideas is the newly published book Tinkered Treasures by Elyse Major, published by Cico Books. The book lay outs 35 easy-to-make DIY projects to bring charm to everyday objects. Plain jars are transformed into adorable pen holders by using pretty decoupage paper.  She makes magnets from bottle lids, and adorns clothespins with fabric.

Although most of her projects are very frilly and romantic, cottage floral-like, and might not resonate with everyone, the ideas are inspiring. If you look beyond the flower and pink paper, and use bold colours or another edgy pattern or fabric, you can easily make the project yours. Each idea is accompanied by step-by-step instructions and illustrations so that even the craft-novice will do just fine.
