Home Tour: A Black and White Rustic Christmas Decor

I love photography and I love interior design. So when Houzz approached me and asked if I wanted to become a contributor and photograph Dutch homes, I immediately said yes! What could be more fun than combining the two things I love most? From now on I will feature more of my interior photography on my blog. I’m kicking off with Mariët and Tim’s apartment who live in Amersfoort and who have a beautiful rustic Christmas decor that blends in perfectly with their Scandinavian black and white interior decor.

Mariët and Tim have a Scandinavian inspired rustic and robust styling. I loved how they managed to fit everything in this 55 square meters apartment without it looking cramped. My favourite part of the apartment was the robust scrapwood table. They bought most of their furniture and accessories at Dutch budget store Kwantum which shows that you can have a beautiful interior without having to break the bank.

Mariet styles the most adorable and chic vignettes. I loved her idea to decorate with postcards. You can switch them with the seasons, or whenever you like to create another atmosphere. Instead of a real tree, her father in law made them a scrapwood one. How inventive! In fact a lot of the furniture and accessories are DIY projects by either Mariet or her father-in-law. Before I went to their home, I would have never considered decorating my own home in black and white, but they showed me that a monochrome palette can also be warm and inviting. Another decorating lesson I took away was that you can create a beautiful home with a modest budget and a lot of creativity.
