I love fashion photography so I was so thrilled when I heard of the William Klein exhibition in Amsterdam. In 2012 I visited the Foam Unseen Photography fair and fell in love with his work in the Fashion exhibition. The photo that mesmerized me was of a veiled woman smoking. From 1955 to 1965 Klein worked for Vogue. His signature are photos of models out in the street or on location. Rather than focussing on the clothes or fashion, he introduced new photography techniques to fashion photography. There is however much more to William Klein than just fashion photography.
In 1956 William Klein published his book New York where he showed American society in an unconventional way. The controversial book was the start of many other city books like Rome, Tokyo and Moscow that changed the photography status quo for ever.
The exhibition in Foam in Amsterdam lasts until March 14, 2014
