Restore your body and soul at the Akasha Spa in Amsterdam

There is nothing more divine than a rejuvenating spa treatment! The aromas of herbs and oils, the freshly made teas before and after the treatment, and the grace of the therapist touch make me surrender and soften and let my mind flow freely. A few weeks ago I was in dire need of a massage as I had tension all over my body. So I booked a deep tissue massage at the Akasha spa in Amsterdam. The city sanctuary is located in a hotel I heart: The Conservatorium Hotel in the heart of the city.

When entering the hotel you go past the reception, and down the stairs where you enter the cozy lounge bar. Here you can have healthy drinks, and light dishes while calming down in preparation of your treatment. The menu has some delicious salads, herbal teas, fresh juices and boosting drinks.

Once undressed and wearing my bathrobe, I was led to my private treatment room. I was in for a 60 minutes of deep tissue massage. In deep tissue massages the therapist uses kneeding, light pressure, firm strokes and elbows to dig deep into your tissue to relief tension, knots, and release toxins. I could feel the stress drain away. It was heavenly! Starting with your neck, shoulders and back, the therapist works down to your legs. Then you turn and your head, arms, and feet get a turn. spa-3

After the massage I was offered herbal tea in the relax area, where flickering tea lights, uplifiting aromas and the calming sound of a fountain ease your mind even more. Next was the private Hammam to detox a bit more in the steam room. It was an afternoon well spent!

The Akasha Spa has seven treatment rooms, and they offer a range of signature treatments. You can also opt for a scrub and massage in the Hammam, or a Vichy shower for cleansing hydrotherapy. The indoor pool, jacuzzi and sauna are other features to try, although I didn’t this time.
