A few weeks ago I went to Restaurant The Duchess located in a beautiful historical building, namely the former KAS bank. The interior is breathtaking with the original ornaments in full galore, a beautiful main hall with high, ornate ceiling glass, handmade floor tiles, gold details, and black marble. The kitchen has glass walls overseeing the restaurant and lounge area where during the day afternoon tea is served, and in the evening coffee, wine and cocktails.
The cuisine is inspired by the South of France and Italy, known as the “Nouveau Cuisine Niçoise. The finest local produce such as artichoke, zucchini, lemon, olive, tomato, truffle and a variety of seafood, meat and fresh pastas, make up the menu. The Afternoon Tea is exquisite and stylish with posh tea cups, pots and cake platters. Indulge in pastries and scones, served with signature marmalade, the finest tea blends and of course champagne. After dinner the lounge turns into a relaxing space around the fire place while sipping punch, wine, champagne and cocktails, with cocktail mixes harking back to the 1920s and 1930s.
