Turkey is a popular holiday destination for North Europeans because of its hot summers, friendly people, budget-friendly accommodations and great food. But while many flock to the touristy resort destinations, I’m already planning my second trip to the more remote area of Turkey: the peninsula Datça. Yesterday I blogged about Villa Olivio which is located on the peninsula in the village Mesudiye. Set in the mountains yet close to the city Datça and to many unspoilt beaches, it is a perfect base to explore what Datça has to offer. With our rental car from Rent-a-car-Turkey we easily moved around, and discovered many unspoilt beaches and picturesque streets.
Only 3 km down the road from Villa Olivio is Mesudiye beach. It’s a long stretch (pebbles and shells) beach lined with small family-run restaurants and hostels. Outside terraces, bougainvilles, cacti and lush plants and bushes make it a lively and quaint beach strip with character. We had dinner at Mesudiye beach twice, once at fish restaurant Oram which was delicious, and once at Poyraz, where they serve real authentic Turkish dishes. I think we only spent €7 per person at Poyraz and we couldn’t even finish everything.
From Mesudiye it is only 7 km to Palumutbükü. This is a lovely roadtrip through the mountains and past turquoise waters, small coves, unspoilt beaches, and with beautiful mountain views.
Ofcourse photos can’t capture the immensity and beauty of the mountains, views and the whole experience. But I can honestly say that this fairly remote and unspoilt part of Turkey stole my heart. There is a laid-back, friendly atmosphere. It still feels pure and authentic, and it makes you realize how little you really need to enjoy life.
