Must-see: 90 years Marilyn exhibition in Amsterdam

Marilyn Monroe exhibition

A must-see exhibition this winter is 90 Years Marilyn, Reflecting on a Female Icon. The exhibition celebrates the birthday of Marilyn Monroe who would have turned 90 this year. Until February 5, 2017 the Nieuwe Kerk (New Church) in Amsterdam showcases the life and the legacy of this remarkable lady with heirlooms and personal artifacts from her last home in Brentwood California. For decades, most of her belongings have been safeguarded by her heirs until they were auctioned by … [Read more...]

Dinner at Brooks Brasserie in Amsterdam

Brasserie Brooks Amsterdam

I have a new favourite restaurant in Amsterdam Oud Zuid: Brooks. With its super cozy atmosphere, a deer head and fire place, Brooks is the perfect go to restaurant after a day of Christmas shopping. The menu that changes regularly celebrates the season with yummie seasonal comfort food and desserts that make you crave for seconds. For starters my friend and I had a go at the crab cakes with fennel, Granny Smith apple and lemon mayonnaise. Nice but it didn't blow our minds. What did fire … [Read more...]

Dinner at the Amstel Boathouse

Amstel boathouse

Amsterdam has a new hidden gem in the restaurant scene: The Amstel Boathouse. Located a few steps from the Amstel river, and just around the corner of the De Miranda aquatic center I instantly felt a connection with the restaurant. :-) The restaurant has an ambiance that transports you right to the Hamptons. The interior is super cozy with a fire place surrounded by inviting armchairs, warm wooden tables, navy blue dining chairs, and many nautical accessories. In winter the perfect sanctuary for … [Read more...]

Amsterdam Canal Cruising with ‘Bluespoon on Board’

Amsterdam canal cruising

On beautiful summer days, there's nothing better than renting a boat and cruising the Amsterdam canals with a group of friends. Amsterdam is after all at its best when seen from the water. A perfect day on the water is however incomplete without drinks and bites. Now, you can go to the supermarket and prepare a picnic basket yourself, or even better, you can order the food and drinks at Bluespoon Restaurant & Bar. The Bluespoon on Board service not only saves you time, but also … [Read more...]

The Pool in Amsterdam

Restaurant The Pool Amsterdam

I love restaurants with great design, and if you do too, The Pool in Amsterdam east is absolutely one to pay a visit. The Mediterranean inspired restaurant and bar is, as the name already reveals, themed as a pool. Whether you go for breakfast, lunch, or dinner, you will not only enjoy the food, but also the quirky decor. The interior design is fun and informal. The colour palette evokes Miami's South Beach with soft pinks, blues and yellow. A pink flamingo and neon lights intensify that South … [Read more...]

Restaurant C: hot design, warm atmosphere, cool and sizzling food

Restaurant C Amsterdam

Last weekend I had a celebratory birthday dinner of a friend in the newly opened Restaurant C in Amsterdam east. All I can say is "wow!" Restaurant C is really something else. I don't think I have ever eaten food with this much flavour before. The 'C' stands for Celsius, because at Restaurant C you are taken on a culinary journey of temperatures. By preparing the dishes on different temperatures - -20°C, 80°C, 100°C and 200°C - the textures and flavours of the products change. But let's talk … [Read more...]

Bar Botanique in Amsterdam

Bar Botanique

Earlier this week I spent the afternoon in Amsterdam East. East is upping its game with a lot of new hip restaurants and interesting stores. One of those new edgy places, is Bar Botanique, café tropique on the corner of Eerste van Swindenstraat and Pontanusstraat. As the name already suggests it is  a tropical escape in the city. The interior is packed with lush tropical plants. But that's not all. Designed by Studio Modijefsky, the interior design of Bar Botanique also has many … [Read more...]
