Amsterdam hotspot: Restaurant Hoed & Krelis

Hoed en Krelis Amsterdam

Amsterdam has another gem in the bustling De Pijp area. Restaurant Hoed & Krelis opened June 29th just around the corner of the Albert Cuyp market. The menu is packed with delicious French inspired dishes. From breakfast to lunch and dinner, Hoed & Krelis is open from 0900 a.m till 03.00 a.m. But what really drew me in was their super glam interior with Parisian flair. A brass and pink marble bar, green velvet chairs, pink leather bar stools and pink marble tables, what more can a girl … [Read more...]

Café Georgette: A slice of Parisian chic in the heart of Amsterdam

I instantly fell in love with the interior design of Café Georgette on my first visit in April. Since then, it has become one of my favourite places to go for coffee in Amsterdam. Once inside you imagine yourself to be in Paris. Café Georgette, the baby sister of popular Café George, has all the ingredients that the brasseries in the French capital have. Its chic interior with marble, brass, metro tiles and velvet benches exudes timeless elegance. Flos lights and a breezy, soft colour palette … [Read more...]

An afternoon at Strand Zuid in Amsterdam

Strand Zuid Amsterdam

Last Wednesday, my friend and I and the kids spent the afternoon at the newly opened Strand Zuid in Amsterdam (translates: Beach South). Since I only work part-time I try to enjoy my days off as much as possible, especially in summer. I like to go outside and explore new restaurants, stroll through Amsterdam, or go to the beach. I was therefore super curious about the new city beach in Amsterdam that is all of the aforementioned combined. My friend and I met for lunch and spent the whole … [Read more...]

Hotspot Amsterdam: The Avocado Show

the avocado show amsterdam

New in town, and already a big hit. The first European avocado restaurant is drawing in crowds in Amsterdam. Everything on the menu is made with the healthy fatty fruit. From avocado burgers, to pokebowls and ice cream. Even the brownies that are served with your latte are made from avocados, even though you wouldn't have guessed by the flavour and texture. The green dishes are super insta-worthy presented with edible flowers, beautifully stacked, or arranged as rose petals. And to finish … [Read more...]

Marilyn Monroe exhibition

A must-see exhibition this winter is 90 Years Marilyn, Reflecting on a Female Icon. The exhibition celebrates the birthday of Marilyn Monroe who would have turned 90 this year. Until February 5, 2017 the Nieuwe Kerk (New Church) in Amsterdam showcases the life and the legacy of this remarkable lady with heirlooms and personal artifacts from her last home in Brentwood California. For decades, most of her belongings have been safeguarded by her heirs until they were auctioned by … [Read more...]

Dinner at Brooks Brasserie in Amsterdam

Brasserie Brooks Amsterdam

I have a new favourite restaurant in Amsterdam Oud Zuid: Brooks. With its super cozy atmosphere, a deer head and fire place, Brooks is the perfect go to restaurant after a day of Christmas shopping. The menu that changes regularly celebrates the season with yummie seasonal comfort food and desserts that make you crave for seconds. For starters my friend and I had a go at the crab cakes with fennel, Granny Smith apple and lemon mayonnaise. Nice but it didn't blow our minds. What did fire … [Read more...]

Dinner at the Amstel Boathouse

Amstel boathouse

Amsterdam has a new hidden gem in the restaurant scene: The Amstel Boathouse. Located a few steps from the Amstel river, and just around the corner of the De Miranda aquatic center I instantly felt a connection with the restaurant. :-) The restaurant has an ambiance that transports you right to the Hamptons. The interior is super cozy with a fire place surrounded by inviting armchairs, warm wooden tables, navy blue dining chairs, and many nautical accessories. In winter the perfect sanctuary for … [Read more...]
