Just 8 minutes from Isla des Mujeres ferry port, Icaco Island Village is an elegant coastal retreat with Mexican pazzaz. The design conscious decor, sea facing suites and decidedly cool rooftop chill zone make this boutique B&B the perfect island hide-out. In fact, staying at Icaco Island Village really feels like staying at a friend’s house. With only four suites, super friendly staff and two passionate owners who have a heartfelt desire to create a laid-back luxury experience, you just can’t go wrong. The beautiful decor and sun-drenched balcony might make you never want to venture beyond your sea-facing hammock.
I woke up like this
Getting up early at Icaco Island Village will treat you to the most amazing sunrise you have ever seen. Photos just can’t capture the glory and colours as the sunrise paints the sky in yellow, pinks and peachy hues. Add the tropical sea breeze and the sound of the waves clashing on the shore and you know you just woke up in paradise. The sunrise can be enjoyed from all rooms’ balconies and patios, or for ultimate grandeur, enjoyed from the rooftop chill zone.
At 9 a.m. sharp every morning, in-room breakfast makes you feel pampered. A large wooden board is filled with fresh cut tropical fruits, fresh fruit juice, yoghurt and granola and something different every day like toast or cake.
Let’s talk decor
The decor of Icaco Island village is visibly a labour of love by the Canadian-Italian owners. The open and airy space exudes a bohemian chic meets beach house vibe. Effortlessly decorated with shells, rattan basket lamps and native patterned pillows, it’s just as elegant as it is peaceful while automatically winding you down with the sound and smell of the sea streaming inside.
Outdoor living
The design of the intimate sea front balcony is inviting with wooden seating, greenery for privacy and a crochet hammock to dream away in.
Rooftop Relaxation
If all you do is wake up in your breezy suite, lounge by the rooftop pool all day, then throw some shrimp on the barbecue for dinner, and watch the sunset from the jacuzzi, you’ll have a perfect Isla Mujeres day at Icaco Island Village. No doubt that is exactly what the owners had in mind when creating this space. Swing chairs at the bar and the 360 degrees, breathtaking views of the island make this the perfect spot for cocktail sipping while going over your plans for the next day. A peek inside the King Suites
Since I love to photograph interior design, the owner also invited me to view the other upstairs suites where you have a nicer sea view and not two, but one bed. Next time I would love to stay in one of those rooms!
