Clairidges Hotel at Christmas

A Karl Lagerfeld Christmas Tree

It is an annual highlight for Londoners and visitors of the city: the unveiling of the Christmas tree in the Clairidge’s Hotel. The Clairidge’s Hotel started the tradition eight years ago. A favourite guest is asked to reinterpret the tree in their own signature style. This has resulted in the most extraordinary and magical Christmas trees. Each year Londoners and tourists make it a point to see the tree and make their way to the hotel lobby to get a peek. So did I and it did not disappoint. This year’s tree is by Karl Lagerfeld. Besides being über glitzy and glamourous it stands out because it’s an upside-down Christmas tree.

“Christmas trees are the strongest ‘souvenir’ of my happy childhood,” Lagerfeld said in a statement. Karl Lagerfeld wowed us with a 16 foot tree with silver lametta decorations. To give it that magical snowy effect he used silver leather feathers and snowflakes handmade in Germany.  Silver gilded roots are topped with a multi-faceted mirrored star which reflects rays of magical light across the art deco lobby. An Icelandish sheepskin rug underneath the tree represents snow. Around the hotel you can see more Christmas chic decorations and touches by Lagerfeld.

Also the outside of the hotel is instagram-worthy with piles of oversized gift boxes, garlands, bows and twinkling Christmas lights. So if you’re in London, do stop by the Clairidge’s Hotel! The festive decorations are definitely something to admire and snap a picture of.
