A weekend escape to Maastricht is always a good idea. A visit to the southern Dutch city often feels like a mini vacation due to its distinct charm and character. It has that je ne sais quoi, French ambiance, top notch restaurants and wine bars and many independent boutiques. But where to stay? Hotel Monastere Maastricht is my go-to hotel. It’s a highly affordable 4-star boutique hotel right in the old historic center. Its unique design and friendly staff will guarantee a comfortable and pleasant stay.
Hotel Monastere Maastricht is located in an old monastery as the name suggests. There’s still much visible of its former function, for example the classic 14th-century elements in the public spaces and historical characteristics in the bedrooms. The interior décor is in a parred down mid-century style with classy retro elements and a Parisian chic ambiance. The eye catcher in the bedrooms is the floral headboard with retro style lighting incorporated. Other design elements that draw attention are the retro radio and the room divider to hold your clothes.
Also part of the hotel but not exclusive for guests, is restaurant and cocktail bar Café Louis. This charming restaurant and cocktail bar serves French brasserie style food and is a hip hang out to sip on some delicious cocktails. The interior is charming and Parisian inspired. The menu boasts the French classics and once a week they also have vegetarian night. I tried the sea bass and devoured a sweet brownie with ice cream.
