People always ask me where I get my inspiration and input for my blogs. I get it from shopping, traveling, surfing the web, reading other blogs and by reading a lot of magazines. This might sound easy, but it takes a lot of time to go through all those magazines out there, because you have to notice little details in pictures and scan all the photos’ captions to find out brands and new shops. So reading magazines is not longer just a leisurely activity, but has become a curating job as well in which I select what would interest my readers, and fits my personal style as well. I also read foreign magazines like the French magazines Marie Claire Maison, and Art & Décoration, or German magazine Schöner Wohnen. But mostly I read American, British and Dutch magazines. This month I have two anniversary editions in my stack of weekend reads that are definitely worth a drive to your nearest book store or supermarket.
Magazine Coastal Living has its 15th anniversary issue out, full of summer inspiration. But the content I know I will enjoy the most this weekend is ” Our top 10 Happiest Rooms“, featuring the most enjoyable photographs of the past 15 years. I just love the bright palettes and energetic vibes that pop of the pages. And I just adore a picture on page 28 where they have framed brightly coloured flip-flops on the wall. What a cool idea! Dutch magazine Residence has its 25th anniversary issue out in stores, and what a fabulous issue it is! The cover alone makes you want to pack your bags and go on holiday. The 340 pages mag is packed with design, interesting interviews with top notch designers and interior stylists, and gives us a peek inside celebrity interiors. But what made it stand out to me is their special: “Summer fabrics on Zanzibar“. The article shows us the latest summer fabrics with summer escape Zanzibar as a back drop. Florals, graphic prints and Eastern inspired patterns are mixed and matched to show that it isn’t that difficult to create a summer vibe in your home.
Hi! Nice review, I really enjoyed reading it and snapshots you have taken are also beautiful! We have really rainy weather outside today, so I think I’ll spent also some time with my decorating magazines 🙂
I love magazines as well. Coastal Living is one of my favorites. I also like Real Simple, Oprah’s magazine, Better Homes and Gardens, Whole Living, InStyle. The list goes on and on. I have a huge stack of them waiting for me 🙂
