I just got home from a visit to IMM Cologne, an annual international furnishing show in Cologne. Visiting fairs like this can be quite overwhelming as I discover so many new brands, and have to process everything I see into story angles. I’m happy to say, that I have been able to narrow it down to a few trends that I would like to share with you.
One of the obvious trends is the colour yellow that was prevalent among the different exhibitors and designers. I’ve seen different shades of yellow, but the most used was a pale yellow. With the recession, people can’t afford to redo their entire home. Instead they try to make changes by adding accessories or another colour to their interior. In fashion as well as in furniture you can see a lot of vibrant colours in answer to the uncertain, somber future, like yellow. The trendy yellow hues are used in contrast to darker brown hues and blue, and combined with wood and leather.
