I hardly ever promote an exhibition that I haven’t visited yet, but in this case I dare to bet my life on it that it is good and that I will endorse it once seen anyway. Yesterday was the grand opening of the exhibition Birds of Paradise, Plumes and Feathers in Fashion, in the MoMu Fashion Museum in Antwerp. I already start swooning just by looking at the photos and video giving us a glimpse of what to expect. The exhibition, that lasts until August 24th 2014, showcases iconic silhouettes by Chanel, Cristóbal Balenciaga, Alexander McQueen, Christian Dior, Yves Saint Laurent and Ann Demeulemeester. It is an ode to the elegance and refinement of the application of plumes and feathers in fashion and haute couture.

Refined accessories with feathers embellish the belle epoque fashion at the end of the late 19th century. In the 1920s feathers were extremely popular in fashio items. The iconic swan feather coat from Marlène Dietrich is a master piece you don’t want to miss.
