Pulitzer's Bar Amsterdam

The Pulitzer’s Bar Amsterdam mixes modern cocktails with classic cool

Pulitzer's Bar Amsterdam

Two weeks ago I was invited to a dazzling evening to drink to the official opening of the new Pulitzer’s Bar in Amsterdam. A perfect spot to shake of all your stress and stir up a small celebration with friends. The cocktail bar combines the art of modern mixology with classic cocktails, all set in an elegant atmosphere. Their fourteen cocktails and three mocktails all have one thing in common: they are partly classical recipes, but with a modern twist. Also the Gin & Tonic mixes are shaken up into contemporary hip sips. The real cherry on top of the cake is the bespoke garnishing that guests can pick out themselves.

I tried two different mixes and can recommend the Pulitzer Old Fashioned Gin & Tonic, made with Zuidam 12 yr Corenwijn, fermented pineapple syrup and Creole bitters. I loved how they serve the cocktails too! Not the usual glassware.

The stylish interior of the Pulitzer’s Bar is also a mix of classic glam with modern elements. There are multiple spaces to create a feel of visiting a canal townhouse. Brass, velvet seats and leather stools evoke sophistication. Warm hues like green and gold inject atmosphere in the sparsely lighted bar. Vintage bottles hark back to yesteryear. On the bar you’ll see a tea set, but don’t be mistaken because it’s not to serve tea, but a special cocktail: the Hot Buttered Rum.

The entrance of the Pulitzer’s Bar is at Keizersgracht 234, making it accessible for everyone, though it can also be accessed via restaurant Jansz, or via an indoor corridor from the Pulitzer Hotel.
