Fashion Trend: The Nomadic Kaftan Dress

Go totally nomad style with a stylish kaftan dress. These hippie style designs are made for free spirited women who like to feel comfortable, yet look classy.

Kaftans, I love them! They are the perfect cover-up on top of your swimsuit. Until recently, most kaftans were semi-see-through, embellished and usually in bold colours.  Those kaftans are basically resort kaftans you can only wear to the beach or pool. But this year (2019)  you can go totally nomad style with a stylish kaftan dress. The designs are Moroccan and Ibiza hippie style made for free spirited women who like to feel comfortable, yet look classy. The trend embraces long sweeping dresses with a loose fit, often made of natural materials like linen or cotton. Pair it with gorgeous leather sandals and you will channel that bohemian traveller aesthetics. Today I’m showing you my favourite nomadic kaftan, AND I will share the best addresses to get your own!

I was lucky to find my perfect Mexican hand-woven kaftan dress in a small boutique in Holbox, Mexico. The delicate, airy kaftan can take me effortlessly right from the beach into the evening. You can either wear it floating or belted. I can spruce it up with high heels, a glimmering belt and a chic clutch and it’s super chic for cocktails with the girls. I also found matching fringed ear jewelry by YaYa.

To accentuate my waist and to shorten the kaftan, I sometimes use a rope-belt. The rope matches with the tasseled details and the fringed hemline. However, the loose and somewhat over-sized wide fit is in my opinion much more comfortable. It does hide my curves but on the other hand elongates as well.
