Home decor inspiration at the VT Wonen Design Exhibition 2017

It's that time of the year again! When the weather turns crisp and the trees transform their colour, I get that itch to redecorate. And there's no better way to soak up inspiration and spot trends than by going to the annual VT Wonen Design Exhibition showcasing everything new in home decor and lifestyle. The VT Wonen Design Beurs takes place October 3-8 in the RAI in Amsterdam. The highlight of my visit each year are the showcase houses by the different home decor magazines that function as … [Read more...]

How to create a retro chic home decor

The summer season is an excellent time to update your home decor. A lot of people choose to skip, or shorten a holiday abroad, and instead invest in redecorating their home. The benefit of decorating and refurbishing in summer, is that the winter collections are on sale. You can get some great design furniture for 10-30% less than if you would buy it in autumn or winter. Inspirational Home: Romantic and dreamy

Last but not least, my favourite inspirational home at the 'woonbeurs', the Dutch furniture & lifestyle fair, of last week: the home by Ariadne at Home magazine. What I love about the Ariadne at Home magazine as well as their 'woonbeurs' home is the detailed styling that looks effortlessly dreamy and romantic. There is so much to see, and everything tells a story and is … [Read more...]

Inspirational home: Muted blues and shades of grey

The inspirational house by interior magazine VT Wonen was all about  moody colours this year. The style was characterized by muted blue hues, and a dark colour palette of shades of grey, and burgundy, paired with copper. Their … [Read more...]

Trend: Round Mirrors

Especially round mirrors with leather straps (inspired by Tom Dixon) or otherwise suspended, are very popular. But also the elegantly dramatic sun shaped mirrors are winning territory. The round mirror is not so much functional, as more decorative. I have also seen many examples of an accent wall with round mirrors grouped together to make a striking statement. I love it, because … [Read more...]

Book review: Visual Contrast

Visual Contrast, the art of display and arrangement by Tim Rundle with photography by Polly Wreford, is probably the most beautiful book I got this year. It has been on my pile of "things to read" for three months now, and I regret that I didn't get to it sooner. The book is an indispensable resource to anyone who would like to learn more about what works well in decorating and why some arrangements of objects look more interesting than others. Stylist Tim Rundle shares his secret: visual … [Read more...]
