Christmas shopping in Hanover

Who would have thought that Hanover is such a great shopping destination? Last weekend when I took part in a blogging retreat at Holly Becker’s home, part of the workshop was shopping. Holly, being a local, took us to the old city center where, as in every large German city, there was a Christmas market. Personally I found this Christmas market the best I’ve seen so far (compared to Berlin and Dusseldorf). But before we went to the “Alt Stadt”, we went to this friendly area called Hanover Linden. That’s the good thing about shopping with a local: they have the inside information. In Linden is where you’ll find the small boutiques, concept stores and artisan showrooms. Today I’m sharing my Hanover’s christmas shopping hotspots:

Riva Maison

Riva Maison is a charming little shop boasting with handmade accessories, and design brands like Livv,  Green Gate , Rice , Disaster Designs , Sass & Belle ,Taj Wood & Scherer , Mini Labo , BikeCap , Kitsch Kitchen , Gubo, Noosa and blood siblings. From home accessories, beautiful wrapping paper, notebooks, crockery, to scarves and jewelry. You won’t leave this shop empty-handed.

Coming Home Interior

This concept store carries a mixture of vintage style furniture and modern design and concepts. It’s interesting to see how different textures, materials and styles are combined. You’ll see industrial lamps on an antique cabinet for example. I particularly liked the peacock baubles and wooden Christmas tree. If you are into interior design, you’ll love this shop!

Glücksmoment

Glücksmoment (moment of happiness) in the old town, is eye-candy as well as candy for your taste buds. The tearoom is also a shop where you can get kitchen and home accessories in pretty pastels, floral designs, and girly prints from a.o. Cath Kidston and Pip Studio. It feels like stepping into a storybook tea room: large jars displaying cookies, pastel macarons, and cute cake pops make you feel like a kid in a candystore.

The Christmas Market

Hot chocolate, mulled wine, apple cider, potato pancakes and candied apples. Deer hides, wooden Christmas ornaments and crystal angels. It’s all there. The Christmas market in Hanover is like stepping into medieval times. At the Finnish market you can find artisans showcasing their crafts. It’s a real spectacle you don’t want to miss.
