Capture your daily life with the Room for Thought app

Hello again, and happy new year! I hope you had a wonderful holiday break if you had one. I sure did. Loads of people have made new year resolutions or are planning to start a new habit. One could be e.g. to enjoy and savour the little, mundane things in life more consciously. How? By making a daily photograph! The new app Room for Thought challenges you to do just that and more.

roomlogoInstead of staging a happy moment like we all do on Facebook and instagram, the app sends you a daily yet random and unexpected alert to take a photograph within only 3 seconds. You have no control over the shutter, you can only aim, and the app will shoot no matter what you are aiming for. No second chances or deletion permitted, hence no room for thoughtfully staging anything. For 365 days you are about to make accidental photographs, and consequently capture your real life, and real moments. The app enables you to make a photo log to look back on at the end of the year. I love the concept as nowadays people tend to only share happy moments, pretending to live a perfect life. This app makes one aware of the little things around us but also forces us to do a reality check in a fun and playful manner.

My first photograph of January 1, 2013 are the left-over oliebollen from New Years Eve. Hopefully the alert will never pop up when one’s in a compromising situation…oops.

  1. Louise, I saw your post on facebook about the app. It wasn’t in English so I didn’t quite know what it was. It snapped a shot – luckily it was just my computer. Now I know what it’s all about, will subscribe again – sounds fun 🙂 I’m not going to Cologne this time but hope to see you in London, unless you are going to Stockholm?? Looking forward to following your blog this new year xx
