After a long day of shopping and sightseeing in Athens, and taking in all of the new impressions, I decided to go to the National Garden. The 15.5 hectares (38 acres) park is located right behind the Greek Parliament building and across from metro station Syntagma. I was so happy to be there as everything slows down and the noise of the bustling city becomes a mumbling far away sound. It is a peaceful sanctuary and the perfect place to retreat, and to enjoy nature’s beauty. Lush tropical plants and trees, little creeks, and vivid blooms are abundant.
In the National Garden there are a duck pond, peacocks, turtles, a Botanical Museum, a small cafe and a Children’s Library and playground. Don’t miss the pond with turtles, it’s adorable to watch them! You might even catch one doing a yoga pose and get it on camera, like I did 🙂
The main entrance is on Leoforos Amalias. You can also enter the gardens from the central one, on Vasilissis Sophias Avenue, another on Herodou Atticou Street and the third gate connects the National Garden with the Zappeion park area.
