New restaurants are popping up everywhere in Amsterdam these days. But one not to miss is Pressroom, the heart of the INK Hotel of which I blogged about yesterday. Before I went on holiday to France and Mykonos, I had a memorable first dinner at Pressroom and it probably won’t be my last. The restaurant is open all day, and is a place to eat, work, lounge, drink, and relax. It embraces the hotel’s philosophy that today’s luxury is time. So why not be a place to facilitate all those activities? The restaurant is open for breakfast, lunch, cocktails and dinner. For coffee meetings, remote working, or dinner with friends. And, like the hotel, the Pressroom restaurant interior is a mix of contemporary design with relics of the building’s heritage.
Interior Design
Pressroom, and the INK Hotel’s heritage goes back to 1902 when it was the headquarter of the Dutch Newspaper ‘De Tijd’. Relics of its past permeate the restaurant design: ink bottles, typewriters, photos, paper rolls, and newspapers. The space has a classic feel to it with a brass bar as its focal point. Marble tables are combined with brass details, and blue and grey chairs. In the back there is a large reading table with as a backdrop a wall covered in legendary black and white photos. Opposite the bar is the library where you can dive into a book or magazine while enjoying a good cup of coffee.
The Food
From the open kitchen, the most delicious dishes are served. We started with an asparagus soup with salmon followed by the INK salad with sweet and sour pickled vegetables and quinoa. As mains we indulged in Bavet and Duck. The food is full of flavour, fresh and original. As a dessert we opted for a cheese platter and my friend had strawberries and ice cream. Besides the a la carte menu, there is also a daily chef’s menu with the choice of a 3, 4, or 5 course menu for a fixed price. (€25-50)
