Mykonos beaches are famed all over the world. Most popular are the party beaches Paradise and Super Paradise where you get to rub elbows with celebrities and dance to the tunes of international DJs. But these two beaches aren’t necessarily the best beaches on the island. Moreover, they are anything but family-friendly, loud, and overcrowded. The beaches on the northern coast of the island are less organized and ideal to enjoy some peace and calm. I have visited several calm beaches and party beaches, and would like to share my new favourite Mykonos Beach: Elia Beach.
Elia Beach is situated on the southern coast of Mykonos, 11 km east of Mykonos town. It is an organised beach with comfortable lounge beds and umbrellas. Elia Beach is known as a family-friendly, and the most gay-friendly beach. It is the island’s longest beach strip and also said to be the most beautiful beach, and I agree 100%. White powdery sand, clear blue waters, and a calm, friendly atmosphere make this beach the ideal summer hang-out. The sea is shallow and gradually deepens so you can walk in quite far, making it ideal for kids. There are water sports activities as well. The view is amazing as you can see the nearby island Naxos on the horizon. There is a charming little boutique selling resort fashion and a very good restaurant with a versatile menu that also serves on the beach. I can highly recommend the quinoa salad with shrimps and one of their smoothies for lunch.
Elia Mediterranean Restaurant
The restaurant is a delight for interior lovers with its muted colour scheme and use of natural materials like wicker, bamboo, branches and wood. Elia is a seasonal restaurant with open spaces and direct acces to the beach. The decor is boho chic with different open-air seating areas. It has a lounge-like atmosphere with a mixture of beach and restaurant guests.
