My favourite luxury Scented candles for Christmas

One of my personal little luxuries in daily life is lighting luxury scented candles in my home. While some may think they are overpriced, I gladly spend the money on something that makes me feel better and relaxed. A fragrance illicit memories and is therefore a powerful tool to create a mood. Scented candles also elevate and enhance my home decor and ambiance. We can all agree that there’s nothing as pleasant as walking into a home that smells nicely. Especially during Christmas time I like to splurge on luxury scented candles as most brands introduce a limited edition collection for the holidays. So let me share my favourite Christmas time scented candles.

Diptyque (Limited) Holiday Collection

Each year I buy the Diptyque Holiday collection consisting of 3 scented candles you can buy separately or as the complete collection. This year the designer is Philipe Baudelocque. He created drawings that are all about constellations. Three mythological animals; a dragon, unicorn and phoenix adorn the black votives. The fragrances are Frosted Forest (woody, pine and fir like fragrance), Fiery Orange (deep, spicey and rich), Incense Tears (Myrrh fragrance coated with sweet, burning cinnamon). Diptyque is a legendary Parisian home and personal fragrances brand founded in 1961. The original shop is a must to visit when in Paris on 34 boulevard Saint-Germain.

Where to buy: Diptyque online, luxury department stores (e.g. De Bijenkorf, Harrods, Neiman & Marcus) and luxury beauty stores (e.g. Skins.nl)

Diptyque Christmas 2017

Diptyque Limited Edition set of 12 mini candles

When I discovered this box I just had to have it. The box is a selection of twelve popular and timeless scents that can be divided into woody, spicy, floral and herbal. There’s a scent for every month of the year. For December I like to burn Pommegranate, Feu de Bois, vanilla or Amber.

CireTrudon Christmas Candle

Ciretrudon was founded in 1643 in Paris and probably the best scented candle maker in the world. For Christmas they developed 6 different fragrances. I chose the Etoile candle with the scent of traditional Japanese incense. It smells like cedar wood and is commonly used in Japanes homes. You only need to burn the candle for 2-3 hours because the fragrance will linger in the space for many hours afterwards.

Other candles to consider

Naturally, I can’t buy all my favourite scented candles or I would go broke. But if I could, below candles would definitely make the cut.

The Penhaligon’s Christmas is in the air candle

Penhaligon’s is a household name for the British royal family. Their original store in Brooke street London is legendary. The Christmas candle has notes of Fir balsam needles, juniper berry, cedarwood and patchouli.
