Serene minimalism in home decor

Although my preferred home decor style is characterized by glamour, elegance and abundance, I can also appreciate other styles. I was therefore just as much captivated by the interior trend Serene Minimalism that was prevalent on the Amsterdam design exhibition last week. The sober yet sleek and stylish trend was mostly on display in bathroom design. Yet one of the Dutch magazines, Eigen Huis & Interieur, also created an entire model house incorporating the trend.

Japan meets Scandinavian and Dutch design

The Eigen huis & interieur model house was themed Tadao Ando meets M.C. Escher. Designer Floor Knaapen describes it as “Japan meets Scandinavia meets Dutch design.” She was inspired by the Japanese and Dutch artists in creating this pure, tranquil interior with natural material like concrete and wood.

Minimalism in bathrooms

Bathrooms from other exhibitors were also characterized by sleek, clean lines, natural materials and minimalism. The bathroom of 2019 is considered a home spa with all amenities you would expect in a luxurious spa or hotel. Round mirrors often with a lit rim, balance out the clean lines.
