Weekend tip: Amsterdam Light Festival Canal Cruise

Watercolors Canal cruise

Hello everyone, I'm back from my Christmas break and first of all would like to wish you a Happy New Year! I had a very peaceful and quiet break filled with netflix, hibernating, stuffing my face with cookies, chocolate and food, and more netflix. Basically, I didn't do anything and it felt great. I'd like to kick off the new year with the one leisurely thing I did do during my break: an Amsterdam Light Festival Boat Tour.  Unfortunately it was raining cats and dogs that day so I was unable … [Read more...]

Art with Timeless Glamour

In winter I always like to invest in my home decor. Lately I've been looking for a new art piece. On the Jonathan Adler website I stumbled on the photography pieces by Slim Aarons. His photography depicts old Hollywood glamour and luxurious places and lifestyles. His photos are printed on aluminium and are bound to inject a bit of jetsetter chic to my interior. I haven't decided on a piece yet, because I love so many of them. My favourite photo of Slim Aaron is Poolside Gossip (1970). I love how … [Read more...]

3 Exhibitions in Amsterdam to go see now

What better way to spend a rainy day or bank holiday than by going to a museum? In Amsterdam there are plenty of museums, and there happen to be three exclusive exhibitions that you must go see now, as 2 of them are only here for one more week. I visited all three last month, and enjoyed them so much. (all photos were taken with my iPhone so might be of less quality than usual) Catwalk in the Rijksmuseum The exhibition Catwalk in the Rijksmuseum is near the end as it runs from from … [Read more...]

Trend: Ceremonial Necklaces in interior design

Tribal accessories and accents in home decor are experiencing a revival. I personally love this trend, as I prefer interior design that has global influences. Especially if you are a traveller it's a great way to incorporate memorabilia and art and antiques from your travel destinations in your home, to give it that personal touch. While it's best to steer away from the tacky and cliche souvenirs, folklore items, and cultural artifacts are objects you should splurge on. But even if you haven't … [Read more...]

In the Picture: Ele Marti Illustration

It's been a while since my last 'in the picture' post where I share one of my favourite instagrammers. Today I would like to recommend to follow Ele Marti illustration on instagram. Her instagram name is @elemartiillustration The Italian fashion illustrator draws inspiration from haute couture designs and uses watercolour paint and occasionaly sparkles to make her drawings three-dimensional. I'm in love with her work, and would love to have one of her drawings on my wall some day soon. (All … [Read more...]

Trend: Bamileke Feather Headdress (Juju Hats)

I love ethnic chic interiors; a fusion home decor of contemporary pieces with ethnic touches like e.g. wood carvings, kilim fabrics, tribal patterns, artisan art you collected from traveling abroad, and natural materials like wicker and bamboo. One of the latest trends that derives from the ethnic chic style, is a Bamileke Feather Headdress ,or Juju Hat, as a wall hanging. The Juju Hat originates from the Bamileke tribe in Cameroon. It is made of natural or dyed chicken feathers or wild bird … [Read more...]

In the Picture: The Lust List

It's time for another installment in my series of instagrammers to follow. And today I have one I'm obsessed with! I only recently discovered the instagram feed _thelustlist_ by Sally Sprat, a graphic designer and illustrator based in Australia. On her instagram she shares her Lust List: illustrations of fashion pieces she loves and wishes she owned. That makes two of us! I just love her illustrations and her sense of style.  Sally is not only drawing for fun. For the last two years she worked … [Read more...]
