From September 27-29 Amsterdam is transformed in an interior design event boasting 106 designers, 98 hot spots and 34 interior brands dispersed through the city center. Via set out routes you are led to interesting design shops, showrooms and exhibitions. This year marks the 10th anniversary of ELLE’s Inside Design event so it’s bound to be extra special. I’m currently down with a bad cold, but I hope to feel better tomorrow or Sunday to visit this event. On their website you can already make a short list of your favourite shops and designers that you don’t want to miss. Here is my top 5 of my short list:
1. Abouzahra
Abouzahra is an exclusive interior products and design brand that brings together the best of different worlds, such as tradition and innovation, rich decoration and minimalism, craft and industrial production. Their designs are contemporary but with traditional ethnic patterns, materials and colour combinations.
2. Fair + Fair
Everything you find in the store is produced from fair trade, environmental, recycling and upcycling, re-use and cradle to cradle principles. The furniture, home accessories and gifts are displayed in styled and furnished rooms as if you are walking into a lived in house.

3. Momiq Design
Inspired by the beauty of used furniture and handmade colorful fabrics, Momiq designs select and upholster chairs that have hidden stories behind them. They travel around the globe and handpick what they love to unite and match them with finds from other cultures into one off designs. A Momiq design therefore stands for color, diverse cultures, beautiful textiles and old furniture.
4. Megalodon
Megalodon is a fairly new shop selling an eclectic mix of global chic apparel, design and accessories from all corners of the world, and they serve delicious coffee and delicacies.

In the Beurs van Berlage Dutch Design Year has a pop-up shop and exposition with the latest interior designs by contemporary designers like
Dirk vander Kooij, Kiki & Joost, Nacho Carbonell and Ontwerpduo. There is a designcafe and OFF SPECIAL designsale.

Made it to Dutch Design Year today (with kids in tow). Loved it. Even they thought it was cool. Thanks for the tip! I’m going to try Fair & Fair tomorrow. I can just about sneak in 1 design place with the kids 🙂
Cool 🙂 Try Klevering and Het Avontuur on the Haarlemmerstraat instead of Fair+Fair It’s also nice for the kids. I didn’t include those in my shortlist because I go there all the time. Your kids will also like the Yoghurt Barn, remember my blogpost ?
