Weekendtip: Salon Residence

This weekend (Sep 28-Oct 1) interior design magazine Residence organizes its second Salon Residence event. After the successful edition in 2015 - see my blog here - they once again transform the Singer Museum in Laren into an inspirational interior design showcase. This year the theme is 'Boutique Hotel'. Eighteen renowned interior designers decorated their own bespoke space. Why the theme 'boutique hotel'? Hotels have become the designer's preferred form of presenting him/herself. … [Read more...]

The Manor Blooms Floral Couture Show

Last night I was invited to The Manor Blooms, a magical floral couture show that blew me away. The couture show was organized by 'Funny how flowers do that' (mooi wat bloemen doen), and the Gardeners. It took place in the Mayer Mansion in the heart of Amsterdam: A gorgeous and mystique location that evokes the feeling of being the estate of an aristocratic person who would host masquerade balls. For one evening the manor was transformed into a floral spectacle by The Wunderkammer and fashion … [Read more...]

Weekend tip: Engaged Event

Coming Sunday the second edition of the inspirational event Engaged takes place in Delft. You might remember my report of the event last year. Even if you're not engaged, the event is definitely worth visiting if you like to discover new vendours of beautiful stationery, flowers, cakes or decorations. As you know I love to set exclusive tables for dinner and tea parties and organize themed events for my friends. The event is therefore also a way to get creative ideas for upcoming birthday … [Read more...]

Leiden Festival Weekend

The annual Leiden Laken (cloth) Festival and the Leiden Food Festival have come to an end. The 4-day event (Thu-Sun) treated us, like every year, to a lot of fun activities and great food in the historical city center of Leiden. The Leiden cloth festival refers to the flourishing textile industry in Leiden in the 17th century. It's one of the biggest events of the year with dragon boat races, markets, and street musicians. In the cobbled streets around the Pieters church you could … [Read more...]

Weekend tip: visit Sail Den Helder

From 20 - 23 June you can visit Den Helder's tall ship event Sail. The sail in and out of the harbour are most spectacular, but unfortunately I can't/couldn't make that. Viewing the tall ships along the shore is just as fun. Beautiful windjammers from all over the world are showcased in full ornate. Whether they are authentic 18th century ships, replicas, or contemporary, they all are jaw-droppers. You can also go on board of several ships, like the Dutch tall ship Stad Amsterdam. … [Read more...]

On the bucketlist: The Bregenz Festival

From July 18 till August 18, Lake Constance in Austria will for the 67th time be the stage of the grand annual event: the Bregenz Festival - Opera on the Lake. And even if you don't like opera, this event  is such a special experience, that it should be on anyone's bucket list. On the lake is in fact a floating stage, built in unusual proportions and amazing designs. The production (light, sound, costumes, theater, live orchestra) is phenomenal and has been a big deal annually since 1945. All … [Read more...]
