The Hague Favourite: High Tea at Het Heden

Last Sunday my friend and I got together for a chat and a high tea at a place I had never heard of before in The Hague: Het Heden. It is located in one of the best shopping streets for high fashion and exclusive boutiques, namely on Het Noordeinde. Inside it looks like a dark pub or brasserie kind of place, but the real gem is in the back, where you’ll find a hidden garden. The decor is kind of quirky because it is a mix of a whimsical French garden, with Caribbean influences and Arabic lamps. But nonetheless it has all prerequisites for a peaceful and enjoyable place to have tea.

The high tea is not the best I ever had but good enough for a fun afternoon with a friend. We were served sweet and savoury pieces: scones with clotted cream and jam, a brownie with orange, butter cake, banana cake with nuts, and carrot cake. The savoury food was a sandwich with tuna salad and apple, one with curry chicken salad, and bruschetta warm out of the oven with mozzarella cheese, pesto  and tomatoes. We had a lovely afternoon, the perfect end to the weekend.
