In the heart of downtown Athens, steps away from the town hall, and only a short walk from Monastiraki is the stylish urban city hotel Fresh Hotel. It’s the perfect base to explore the city and its historical landmarks. The hotel was recommended to me by discovergreece.com, and I enjoyed the hospitality and interior design very much. The interior is dominated by the famous trend ‘house minimal’. Design furniture and lamps from e.g. Foscarini, and Hockney of Minotti give the space a Japanese atmosphere. The lineal fireplace is covered by one imposing black double-decker wall. The architects are Zeppos Tasos, Georgiadi Eleni and associates. Clean lines, walnut and oak wood, and pops of bright colours, make this hotel a treat for interior design lovers.
The best part of the hotel is the Air Lounge roof bar and restaurant and pool, a tranquil escape from the bustling streets of Athens. It’s the perfect spot to chill and try out their nouveaux Greek menu with produce sourced from the nearby market and sophisticated Greek and Mediterranean dishes. At night you can sip cocktails while gazing at the star-filled sky, it doesn’t get any more romantic than that! From the poolside you have an amazing view over the city reaching all the way to the Acropolis.
The hotel counts 133 rooms, suites and executive rooms that are decorated with simple lines, minimalist furniture and vivid colours. Artemide lights are above the bed, blue glass seperates the bathroom from the bedroom. A glass table called Lens by Patricia Urquiola for B&B Italia filters the light coming in. The bathroom has coloured glass, mosaic on the floor, corian on the walls and surprising lightings. The bathroom amenities include my favourite Greek beauty brand Korres.
For breakfast you go to the Magenta restaurant, a white and pink space with minimal design. You can indulge in a rich breakfast from their buffet, and start your day exploring the city on a full stomach.
The Fresh Hotel is absolutely funky and fresh, and ideal for a city trip to Athens. Find out more on their website.
