Shopping Guide Amsterdam: Old South – part 2

Amsterdam Old South is often forgotten in the many online shopping guides. A shame, because to me it’s one of my favourite shopping areas in Amsterdam. It’s less touristy, and there are plenty of boutiques and eateries. What I like most about shopping in Old South is the high end service and personal attention I get in the boutiques and eateries. I feel that in this part of the city, people go the extra mile to help you and feel welcome. Join me on my second part of shopping in Old South on the Willemsparkweg.

Feminine, colourful and timeless elegance spring to mind when I have to describe their collection. Here’s where I get my dresses from Ana Alcazar, Hoss Intropia, and Isabel de Pedro. Their brands mix is extensive with: Gerard Darel, Chiarico, Etxart & Panno, Hoss Intropia and Penny Black. New in their assortment is Diva Catwalk London and Blacky Dress, and the colourful scarves from “I love my Moment”. – Willemsparkweg 57

Silk

I discovered Silk only recently, and fell in love instantly. Silk is a boutique for fashion, beauty, and jewelry. I had the pleasure to meet the owner Silke van der Laan, fashion model, in her shop and got the 411 on her boutique’s concept and designs. Her boutique carries consignment stock which she curates personally. She travels to Paris, New York, Milan and other fashion capitols to get the designs herself. Due to her career as a model she has an extensive network and connections with design houses. Therefore, there are only a few pieces, sometimes just one piece of a design in her shop, leaving you with a truly unique buy.

What I love most about the boutique is the personal service and the way they identify your style and personality and find the perfect designer to match that. Silke and her team quickly noticed my style and drew me to a designer’s collection that was a match made in heaven: Laura Blagogee. Silk carries all sizes and apparel for all shapes. It is for women who seek something more affordable than the high fashion brands but better than the high street retail fashion. Elegance, femininity and allure are what makes this boutique collection one of my favourites. Brands include: Donna Karan, Elisabetha Franchi, Iro, Antik Batik, Zinga, L’Autre Chose, Set, Armani, Gianfranco Ferre, Hunkydory, Dondup, Brunello Cuccinelli and others. – Willemsparkweg 95

Klevering Zuid

Conceptstore Klevering Zuid isn’t as large as the one in neighbourhood the Jordaan on the Haarlemmerstraat, but still I love to go there. They have home accessories, ceramics, cook books, small home furniture and stationery from Dutch design, their own line, and international designers like e.g. Ferm living, Seletti, Marimekko, and Normann. – Jacob Obrechtstraat 19a

George W.P.A.

George W.P.A., affectionately known as ‘W’, serves cuisine classics in a casual-yet-uptown setting. The interior is like the proverbial French brasserie New York style, all black and white. This is where you would like to get your eggs benedict in the morning, a sandwich outside on the terrace on a sunny day, or pasta for dinner. – Willemsparkweg 74
