Hotspot: Mama Kelly Amsterdam

Mama Kelly Amsterdam

The buzz of Amsterdam last week was the highly anticipated opening of the restaurant Mama Kelly Amsterdam. It's the pink sister of the edgy and more robust urban bistro Mama Kelly the Hague.  Being a regular customer in The Hague, I knew upfront that they would hit the ball out of the park with the decor. Designed by design studio De Horecafabriek, it's interior is a girl's dream. Everything is pink, floor to ceiling, to the velvet seats and the pink bar. Brass lamps and palms make it super … [Read more...]

Dinner at Brooks Brasserie in Amsterdam

Brasserie Brooks Amsterdam

I have a new favourite restaurant in Amsterdam Oud Zuid: Brooks. With its super cozy atmosphere, a deer head and fire place, Brooks is the perfect go to restaurant after a day of Christmas shopping. The menu that changes regularly celebrates the season with yummie seasonal comfort food and desserts that make you crave for seconds. For starters my friend and I had a go at the crab cakes with fennel, Granny Smith apple and lemon mayonnaise. Nice but it didn't blow our minds. What did fire … [Read more...]

Hip design in Brooks Brasserie Amsterdam

Brasserie Brooks Amsterdam

Discovering good breakfast places in Amsterdam has been one of my latest obsessions. However, finding a breakfast place that also has a compelling interior design is the cherry on top of my hunt. In my favourite shopping neighbourhood, Old South (oud zuid), there is Brooks Brasserie. The stylish restaurant is actually part of a small boutique hotel. Besides breakfast, you can also drop by for lunch, dinner, or just a cup of coffee. The interior design of Brooks Brasserie is of the hands of … [Read more...]

Shopping Guide Amsterdam: Old South – part 2

Amsterdam Old South is often forgotten in the many online shopping guides. A shame, because to me it's one of my favourite shopping areas in Amsterdam. It's less touristy, and there are plenty of boutiques and eateries. What I like most about shopping in Old South is the high end service and personal attention I get in the boutiques and eateries. I feel that in this part of the city, people go the extra mile to help you and feel welcome. Join me on my second part of shopping in Old South on the … [Read more...]

Sharing Food with Friends at the Seafood Bar in Amsterdam Old South

After a long day of shopping in Amsterdam Old South my favourite place to flock for food is the The Seafood Bar. And how convenient! The Seafood Bar is in the Van Baerlestraat, just around the corner of the PC Hooftstraat where I ended yesterday's shopping guide of Amsterdam Old South part 1. It's the perfect spot for a lavish lunch or casual dinner. It is a contemporary concept of a casual restaurant and gourmet bar where you can just walk in throughout the day without … [Read more...]

Shopping Guide Amsterdam: Old South – part 1

It has been a few weeks since my last Amsterdam shopping guide. In my first two shopping guides I highlighted neighbourhood De Pijp. Today, and the coming days I will share with you my favourite shops and eateries in the Old South of Amsterdam.  Although Old South is often referred to as posh and decadent, there are plenty of shops that are quite the opposite. And yes, I do like a bit of luxury as well. The Old South has been my personal shopping destination ever since 2008 when I had my office … [Read more...]
