I have a new favourite restaurant in Amsterdam Oud Zuid: Brooks. With its super cozy atmosphere, a deer head and fire place, Brooks is the perfect go to restaurant after a day of Christmas shopping. The menu that changes regularly celebrates the season with yummie seasonal comfort food and desserts that make you crave for seconds.
For starters my friend and I had a go at the crab cakes with fennel, Granny Smith apple and lemon mayonnaise. Nice but it didn’t blow our minds. What did fire us up was the smoked trout with orange and little gem, ginger and spring onion, soy dressing and sesame. The combo of the different flavours (sweet, bitter, spicy and salty) was amazing.
The main dishes were both full of flavour. A truffle risotto with parmesan and mushrooms warms you up. And the steak bavette with hazelnut gravy, brussels sprouts and sweet potato mash pleasantly surprised us. The steak was perfectly grilled and the gravy exceptional.
Dessert was truly the highlight of the evening. Both our choices exude Christmas and winter. Think poached pears with coffee and almond and vanilla ice cream. But the real show stopper was the lava cake with cranberry sorbet and chocolate mousse. We wanted to lick the plate.
Brooks Brasserie is open daily for breakfast, lunch and dinner. – Beethovenstraat 43
