The last week of May, I traveled to the Côte d’Azur, a trip that I will not soon forget. It was one of my most enjoyable vacations, where I got to relax equally as much as explore new places. The weather was excellent beach weather, the food as always superb, and I stayed at the perfect locations. In Saint Tropez I spent a couple of days at the Hotel Benkirai: a charming four star design hotel with five star sophistication and service.
Hotel Benkirai in Saint Tropez guarantees a sleek sleep in modern luxury. The hotel’s architecture is authentic Mediterranean, while the contemporary interior design by Patrick Jouin is a blend of modernity and traditional accents. The Benkirai takes its name from an Indonesian tree. The hotel that is built in Provencal house style, is covered with Benkirai wood.
Location
The hotel is located a 5 minutes drive from the St Tropez harbour, right in between the bustling shopping center and Pampelone beaches. The free shuttle service, that operates on demand, picks up- and drops you of at both popular places.
The pool and lush garden, a peaceful haven
At the Benkirai Hotel you can enjoy tranquility and calm in the lush tropical garden and pool area. Relaxing lounge music, the sound of birds, and serene sounds of the wind blowing in the palm trees, make this a haven of peace. The pool is heated and unfolds in shades of blue from turquoise to ultramarine. A large tipi in the back corner of the garden is a place to receive spa treatments and massages.
The Rooms
The hotel counts 37 rooms and suites. I had a superior room with a private terrace facing the pool and garden. The sleek interior in white and blue is minimalistic yet comfortable and über modern with an open, streamlined walk-in shower, a pull-out wash basin, a blue diode lit toilet, and double-sided design mirror, lit facing the bathroom and smokey as seen from the room. Above the lacquered desk is a design wall lamp as a focal point. The criss cross grid provides interesting shade and light effects. Bonuses are the pillows a la carte, offering a selection of different pillows, the lighting system with dimmers, DVD Player, and the luxury shower products without paraben.
Gastronomy
Breakfast is served on the outside terrace. You can choose from fresh and dried fruits, different pastries and breads, cereals and nuts, fresh pressed juices, and eggs any style. A nice service was the daily morning healthy energy shot in a small glass, made of super foods and juices.
Lunch and drinks are served at the pool, the bar, and on the restaurant terrace. The lunch menu is light and healthy with Mediterranean dishes, saldads, seafood, and sandwiches. There is also a daily special. I tried the asparagus and eggs with truffles. So good! In the evening the restaurant dishes up Mediterranean delicacies. There is a barbecue by the pool where you can indulge in roasted lobster, rib steaks, grilled fish, or vegetables from the wok. A perfect spot for an al fresco dinner!
