Home Tour: A laid back and artistic abode

Interior decorator Marieke Rusticus is always moving things around in her home in Zwolle, the Netherlands. The interior is eclectic, leaning towards bohemian, with many artistic accessories and design objects. The earth tones and raw natural materials used, enhance a laid back and minimalist atmosphere. Marieke and her husband mixed modern and vintage pieces, and even made a few additions themselves, like the dining table and the wooden doors in their bedroom.  The complete home tour and my … [Read more...]

Home Tour: A Family Home Full of Contrasts

On a dreary afternoon I drove to the home of Myrle and Mark in the Dutch city Zwolle to photograph their house. The couple moved into the newly built house six years ago, and since it was new, they had carte blanche in their decorating choices. From the materials, to the colour scheme, they could make it a home exactly to their liking. And since Mark has a knack for DIY projects, they could also save on spendings. The result is a real Dutch family home full of contrasts. Contrasts in colour: … [Read more...]

Home Tour: A modernized farmhouse

In a small village in the Netherlands, located on a dike overlooking the river the Maas, I photographed an amazing renovated farm house. The house has a long and interesting history. It used to be a farmhouse with a barn where they would chill milk, and later fruit from the Betuwe's local orchards. After that, it served other purposes and eventually it was bought by a family of two generations who divided it into two homes. Six years ago, the current owners bought the dated house and completely … [Read more...]

Home Tour: Mixing Patterns in an Eclectic Home

Sometimes I see an interior that is totally not what I would ever think of doing, but that has so much personality that I would love to deviate from my own style. This happened when I saw the interior of a family home designed by American based design studio Annie Hall interiors. The home is a mix of classic forms, modern furniture and an array of colours and patterns are carefully matched. There are so many interesting pieces that I couldn't name my favourite. I love the chairs around the … [Read more...]

Home Tour: An Amsterdam loft apartment with an industrial edge

Since I started photographing interiors I encounter the most creative and unique homes. And even though some of them are not my personal style, and I would never want to live in it, I do admire the vision and thought that goes into some of the interior designs and renovations. There are always elements and details I do like, and that inspire me to enhance my own home. One example of an interior that inspired me, and that I loved to photograph is the home of Peggy and Bouke. The couple converted … [Read more...]

Home Tour: A Copper Crush warms up a bachelor’s pad

Lately I've been totally absorbed in photographing home interiors. Since it is winter there is nothing else to photograph really. The weather is dreary, nature is bare, and my home is too dark to photograph food. What I love most about photographing homes is meeting all these different people and learning about their style and why they make certain choices. It inspires me to enhance my own home as well. One of the homes that I recently photographed is the house of a Dutch man in Amsterdam. It … [Read more...]
