After staying in Saint Tropez, where everything is glamourous and cosmopolitan, I thought it would be nice to stay in a more French Provencal hotel. I love boutique and design hotels most, but this time I was looking for something charming. My quest led me to the Hôtel L’Orangeraie in La Croix-Valmer. The building dates back to 1900 when it used to be a convent, later a mansion, and now a peaceful haven not far from Ramatuelle, Saint Tropez and the beaches. Although it’s a 3* hotel, its charm and tranquility, the beautiful surroundings, and the gorgeous garden and pool-area give it a 4* luxury experience. I loved staying here, and would definitely return to this hotel again.
The interior
The interior of the Hotel L’Orangeraie is like a small museum with antique furniture and many authentic details still in full galore. I loved the marble spiral staircase, the beautiful high ornamented ceilings, and the antique chairs dispersed around the hotel.
The garden and pool
The gem of the hotel is the garden with the pool and fountain. Here you can completely relax as the only sounds you hear are those of the birds, the wind and the fountain. The panoramic views are also amazing. You can see as far as the Iles d’Hyeres. In the morning, breakfast is served on the terrace, can you imagine how wonderful that is in the morning sun?
My room with a view
I had a seaside view room with the most stunning view. The rooms are simple and charming with a pastel coloured interior design and adorable furniture as if you are in a doll house.
The surroundings
Hotel L’Orangeraie la Croix Valmer is located a stone throw from many wineries, the Maures Hills, and only a 5 minute drive from the beach. It is situated along a quiet hillside road that leads to Ramatuelle up north (20 min) and the village south (3 min). The perfect location!
