Shopping Guide Berlin: Friedrichschain

Today is the last shopping guide for Berlin. I saved the best for last. My favourite shopping day in Berlin was in Friedrichschain. It's in former east Berlin and has its own distinct character.  It is known for its many bars, clubs, pubs, and cafes, concentrated in the Simon-Dach-Straße and small boutiques around the Gärtnerstrasse. You can easily combine a day of shopping here with sightseeing of the East Side Gallery (the longest remaining part of the Berlin Wall), the Molecule Man (a big art … [Read more...]

Shopping Guide Berlin: Mitte

Today I'll feature the 3rd of four shopping guides in Berlin. Although my guides are already quite elaborate, I'm still not covering all there is to see and shop. Berlin is continuously changing and developing. Chances are that if you visit Berlin every two year, you'll discover something new each time. Moreover, Berlin is at the forefront of innovative concepts in restaurants and shops. Let's hit Berlin's Mitte area! Potipoti - Rosenthalerstrasse 66 The label, Potipoti, was founded in … [Read more...]

Shopping Guide Berlin: Prenzlauerberg

When you are in Berlin, Prenzlauerberg should be on your list. It's one of the hippest and most upcoming neighbourhoods. The Croco Blue bar I blogged about last week is also in Prenzlauerberg. There is a friendly and young atmosphere with lots of small boutiques, bars and eateries to choose from. But what I loved most were the pastel coloured facades and sun flowers. I was there on a foggy day, imagine what it'll look like with blue skies and sun. I didn't have time to roam the entire … [Read more...]

Shopping guide Berlin: Kreuzberg

Kreuzberg is the multicultural epicenter of Berlin. It's alternative yet due to the mix of different cultures easy accessible to anyone who likes to explore something new and exciting. A nice and quiet street with a few small boutiques, ice cream parlours and cafes to start your day of shopping in Berlin, is the Körtestrasse. It feels like you are in a village for a moment. Beumer & Lutum bakery - Körtestrasse 36 For a wholesome breakfast and good cup of coffee, go to Beumer … [Read more...]

Berlin hot spot: Street Food Thursday at Markthalle Neun

My Berlin tips continue! I have so much to share from my short city trip last week. But since I don't want to overwhelm you, this will be my last post for now, and I will pick up where I left, next week. If you're visiting Berlin on a Thursday you're in luck, because the capital has designated Thursday as the Street Food day. Berliners flock to Markthalle Neun where food trucks, pure food producers and culinary street vendours congregate to feed the hungry locals when they get off from work. … [Read more...]

Hotel to Heart: Hotel Michelberger in Berlin

There are many unique design hotels in Berlin, but one that really stands out is the Michelberger Hotel in Friedrichshain. It's not a luxury hotel like you are used from me, nor have I stayed here, but it is worth a visit just to lounge, sight see, and have coffee or tea. In fact, it’s the opposite of the modern, luxury design hotel. This hipster hangout is located across from the Warschauer station and close to the East side gallery (the longest stretch of remnants of the wall) and the red … [Read more...]

Berlin hot spot: Le Croco Blue

While I was exploring Berlin I discovered the most extraordinary and edgy cocktail bar in Prenslauerberg called Le Croco Blue. I instantly fell in love with the interior, especially the turquoise blue chairs. I would love to have those chairs at home. The story behind the space is rather interesting as well.  Le Croco Blue houses in the former Bötzow brewery which flourished from 1885-1945. The building was the last untouched building in former East Berlin since the fall of the wall. It has … [Read more...]
